Face the fear.
Every morning I go for a walk with my dog Geoffrey around Hollingworth Lake - for those that don't know I live in a little village at the foot of the Pennines and I am lucky enough to call this beautiful place home. I used to walk past this same bridge when I was a little girl, My mum used to tell me that there were trolls under this bridge and would often dare me to go over it, She would repeat the words from the three billy goats gruff. Trip, trap, trip, trap went the bridge, who's that tripping over my bridge. Then I would take the deep breaths I needed to give me the courage to run over the troll bridge. I remember so clearly the feelings I had before taking on this huge challenge I had been set. I would force myself to be brave enough to do something that seemed utterly terrifying and although I was frightened and worried about what might happen if I dared cross the big nasty trolls bridge you know what? I did it anyway. I took that huge leap of faith and I made it to the other side of the bridge, There I was laughing and giggling, jumping up and down with excitement that I had made it to the other side unscathed. Woohooo I was as strong as Sheerah and that troll had nothing on me!
This got me thinking! Why do we stop taking risks when we get grown up? At what point do we stop being so daring?
I want you to visualize yourself as being just 8 years old - What would you want for that that little girl/boy, Would you want them to go for it? Would you tell them that their dreams of becoming a Rock Star, Vet, Doctor, World Traveler, Life Coach, Actress, Singer would never come true or would you want to show that if they want something bad enough that they can absolutely achieve anything they want to!
What do you want for the 8 year old you?
You really can achieve anything that you put your mind too, and if that little monkey in your brain is telling you that this is not true then you tell him to stop it right now! It is true YOU really can achieve anything you want to do. I know that facing the fear can sometimes be really scary, I also know that it is absolutely 100% worth taking the risk for! If you are scared of taking that first step then I can highly reccomend the book Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway Book by Susan Jeffers
It is awesome!
Why take a risk
Risk gives you an opportunity to open up to your talents, interests, abilities and dreams. Go for it, take that risk the odds are better than you think and if you get all scaredy cat remember that 8 year old - what would you want for them?
